Another Twitter Tasting and another whisky! This time a rather intriguing idea introduced by Famous Grouse in the form of a competition. Participants were sent a sample of Black Grouse to try, and then had to submit a 140 character tasting note under the tag #grousenotes from which one would be chosen as a winner – the prize being a bottle of Black Grouse! So what did we think?
The colour was a lovely golden orange – very summery. The nose gave some light peat and smoke mixed in with some orange and despite being bottled at 40% we could detect the alcohol on the nose before it was subdued by hazelnut and some candied orange – very interesting and a lot going on! The subtle smoke continued on the palate with hints of orange coming through. As it developed it became more coastal and was reminiscent of a beachside BBQ mixed with some wet, salt soaked boat ropes. The finish was reasonable long and mouth filling before the smoke ebbed away.
All things considered its a lovely blend and at around £18 for a bottle is well worth considering for your whisky shelf. So, what did we think of it in our 140 characters? Here’s our entry:
