Boxes Blend is a whisky put together by Athlete bassist Carey Willets to celebrate both his new solo post and also his interest in whisky. Sadly we were unable to make it down to the fabulous launch event hosted by Master of Malt in that London, but we were delighted to receive a sample of the finished masterpiece to review. Without further ado, here are our thoughts.
Boxes Blend [40.9%]
A lovely and interesting blended whisky that is well balanced with a hint of peat. Well worth trying.
Nose: Great mix of vanilla and cream to begin with, delves into strong notes of candle wax and furniture polish before it goes east with cloves and star anise. Very warming with a subtle peat running through the middle of it
Palate: Subtle and light with a gentle spice. This opens to reveal a line of smoke that is slightly deeper than the nose suggests giving further glimpses of ash and embers. The palate loses the wood found on the nose and instead allows the Indian spices to build with orange and musty vanilla
Finish: Medium in length and very spicy
Available from Master of Malt here for £54.95.
