This is the entry level blend to the Cutty Sark range. It is bottled at 40% and comes in at around £18 representing unbelievable value for money. It was very light in colour, almost Sauvignon Blanc esq to be honest. It has a great nose; initial notes of lemon with oats and malty cereals pushing through an overall fragrant and delicate smell. The taste brought Malted Milk biscuits, ripening orchard fruits and custard – quite a combination. As expected, given the cask make up, the presence of vanilla was also quite strong. Quite a long and fresh finish followed which lingered around the back of the mouth for a good length of time.
It was our first exposure to the Cutty Sark range and it is a great place to start; it would be an ideal dram to serve up as an aperitif or at a summer barbecue – it seems to sit perfectly with warm weather and would be extremely refreshing; we may even try mixing it with some soda and lemon zest come the warmer weather!
