Here is another offering from the latest round of single cask whiskies from Wemyss. This one looked like a cracker; a Linkwood from 2000 bottled at 46% – we couldn’t wait to try it!
The whisky was Sauvignon Blanc in colour, very light and pale. The nose seemed very youthful, surprising considering it is 12 years old. It was however full of green apple skin and damp leaves (it never ceases to amaze me how accurate Wemyss labels are for their whisky – Summer Orchard sums this spirit up brilliantly). The scent then became quite biscuity and was almost like alcoholic fudge in nature (mixed with a little vanilla!).
The palate was delicate, almost like milk chocolate drops combined with a little nutmeg. We were reminded of a breezy summer day as we drank it and were touched with a little pear sweetness before a spicing of pepper rounded off the taste. The finish was long and sweet and was reminiscent of homemade apple crumble – wonderful.
This is a lovely little whisky from Wemyss – Summer Orchard is delicate and creamy, and on these cold nights will leave you wishing away the spring as you anticipate the summer!
