Ever since we knew that this whisky was to be included in the Cutty Sark Tweet Tasting we were very excited! The full size bottle is packaged exquisitely in a fine wooden box and is a real collectors item; at just under £200 it is outside our current price range so we were interested to see if it lived up to its billing!
The whisky, bottled at 46.5%, has a lovely sherried rich and mahogany colour. The nose was wonderful; one to spend the entire evening with – very spicy, lots of sherry, raisins and old oak mixed in with faded leather. Its gives the image of Sherlock Holmes reclining in his panelled study pondering his cases, while enjoying a pipe. Moving onto the taste – a genuine wow moment! Fantastic depth, expertly tamed sherry, orange peel, rich fruits with plums standing out – almost Japanese in taste for us (which is a great thing!). It has a big, big finish that still lingered as the night drew to a close ending with some fantastic dark cocoa.
Cutty Sark have created a masterpiece here – it may be £200 but the quality of the spirit is exceptional, and on that basis it justifies the price! Add to that the collectors packaging and you have a real treat; we just hope that many of the buyers will open and taste this whisky as it is very special! Many thanks again for including it in the tasting!
