Mike and I had a day spare recently so we decided to visit ‘that London’ and follow our own whisky trail, discovering some of the best whisky shops in the city and ultimately aiming to finish up at The Scotch Malt Whisky Society for a few drams. In total we fitted in 4 whisky shops, 1 pub, and 1 SMWS bar (with a lunch stop in the fabulous Borough Market for the most amazing salt beef sandwich in the land. Fact.)…

Compass Box Rock!
Epic isn’t usually a word associated with whisky tastings but that’s exactly what Friday was – epic! We may have only received a fleeting glimpse of the excitement with a 30 minute tasting in Birmingham, but 8 tastings across the length of the county in 24 hours is, well, epic! John Glaser of Compass Box and Dominic Roskrow (whisky writer) travelled from Inverness to Brighton with 6 stops inbetween in a day! They covered almost 700 miles, brought whisky to 200 lucky individuals, had some kippers (those who read the tweets will know what I mean) and attempted to make it into the legendary Guiness Book of Records – and all this to highlight the fact that The Whisky Shop now stock Compass Box!!

World Whisky Day Tasting
We’ve got a great free event lined up for you to celebrate World Whisky Day. We’ve teamed up with The Whisky Shop in Birmingham and are hosting a ‘Blind Tasting‘. Simply bring a bottle of whisky from your collection to share with the other guests and we’ll wrap them up to hide the labels and so on. You’ll then have the opportunity to talk others through your offering, as well as dramming with all of the other whiskies available. It’s a great chance to try some new and unusual whisky without having the preconceptions of what you like and what you don’t! The identity of all whiskies will then be revealed!
The tasting will start at 18:00 on Tuesday 27th March at the Whisky Shop in Birmingham; places are free but extremely limited and will be offered on a first come first served basis. To secure your place simply DM us on Twitter @LRWhisky and we will respond to let you know if you have been successful! So come along, support World Whisky Day, get to know the authors of this blog (!) and drink some cracking whisky! We can’t wait to see you!
