Special Releases 2015

Diageo Special Releases 2015

The Diageo Special Releases launch is always the best event in the calendar. It presents a fabulous opportunity to try some unique, and frankly, very special whiskies from the Diageo stocks. The class of 2015 is superb. It contains all of the usual suspects and mixes in some of the lesser know distilleries in the portfolio. Read on and enjoy some of the finest whiskies of 2015.

Glenlivet Founder's Reserve

Glenlivet Founder’s Reserve [40%]

It seems very remiss that we’ve been writing this blog for just over three years and we’ve only just got around to reviewing a Glenlivet! Well, with this tasting note we’re putting that right and we’re sure that it will be the first of many as it is a malt that we’ve long admired. The object of our affections today is the Glenlivet Founder’s Reserve – a whisky that was announced in October 2014 and released as a tribute to the founder George Smith (I guess the clue is in the name really). Our timing couldn’t be better though as it is just being rolled out globally this month.

The Whisky Exchange Whisky Show 2013

The Whisky Exchange Whisky Show really is the highlight of the whisky calendar; fabulous whiskies, a stunning location and the opportunity to talk to the people who actually make the spirit make this the must go to show of the year! They also have a trade day on the Monday which is why I found myself at Vinopolis on a surprisingly sunny October lunch time where I met up with lots of fellow bloggers and friends.

Bowmore Bottle Your Own Experience

Bowmore Bottle Your Own Experience

On of the attractions of this years Feis Ile is the opportunity to bottle your own bottle of Bowmore. On offer is cask number 23 from 1997. It is a first fill Oloroso sherry butt that is currently at 55.5%. Going down to the Number One Vaults to fill it was a fabulous experience, and it was really interesting to use the valinch to pull the whisky from the cask and to fill the bottle. I opted not to use any sort of filter so it will be raw and unique. A final nice touch was that as we left the warehouse we bumped into Rachel and Eddie who signed the bottle for me. Amazing.

It is an opportunity not to be missed – some of the whiskies are sold out, never to be repeated! Just take a look at what you can try.

How should you store whisky?

How should you store whisky?

We all have bottles in our collection that we’re saving for a special occassion. I, as a rule, only buy whisky that I will ultimately end up drinking at some point in the future rather than buying to invest. That doesn’t mean though that I’m going to open every bottle instantly – indeed some have sat in my cupboard for a while now as I ponder the right moment  and event to open them!

Japanese Three Way – A Masterclass in Whisky

Japanese Three Way – A Masterclass in Whisky

This was a masterclass that I was very much looking forward too! The prospect of six Japanese whiskies from three of the biggest players in the game had been too much to resist and I willingly signed up to this event at the earliest opportunity.

Old Ballantruan Tweet Tasting

Old Ballantruan Tweet Tasting

Another whisky tasting with The Whisky Wire – go on then! After the thrills and spills of the SMWS tasting we were delighted to be involved with the next in a cracking Autumnal series of Tweet Tastings – a side by side comparison of two Old Ballantruans; the original and the literally just launched 10 year old.
