Once again Birmingham is the place to be drinking whisky! Our friends at the Birmingham Whisky Club have recently launched a whole summer of whisky events under the title – A Dram Fine Summer! The weather may not be living up to everyone’s expectations, but the whisky events will certainly brighten even the dreariest of summer days in the UK. Read on for more details from the Birmingham Whisky Club.
Throughout June, July and August, an exciting and eclectic range of whisky-themed events will be on offer, giving whisky enthusiasts, novices and those who just fancy doing something a bit different the chance to sample some very special drams in some unusual settings.
The programme of events kicked off on June 13th with Peat and Smoke: a Cigar and Whisky Masterclass, at which guests had the opportunity to enjoy some fine cigars with experts Hunters & Frankau. The festival will also include a special ‘taste-along’ screening at The Electric cinema of Ken Loach’s celebrated film The Angels’ Share, a classic underdog story with whisky at its heart, during which film-goers will sample and learn more about the malts featured in the film.
Other highlights are a trip to the Penderyn Distillery in Wales, a bourbon-themed celebration of American Independence Day and Walk and Whisky, a walking tour of Birmingham’s best whisky bars in the company of an architectural historian, with some whisky stops on the way. There will also be tastings with Macallan, Tomatin, SMWS amongst others.
Amy Seton, founder of The Birmingham Whisky Club and festival organiser, comments: “We’ve worked hard to put together a really exciting programme for A Dram Fine Summer that offers something for anyone interested in whisky. Whether you’re an expert of a complete novice, there should be an event for you. We also wanted to work with local venues and retailers to highlight what a fantastic city Birmingham is and how much there is on offer locally. We’re delighted to be working with the likes of The Electric cinema, the brilliant new Church Inn and with retailers such as Hunters & Frankau to make this a fantastic celebration of whisky and Birmingham.”
The full programme of events can be viewed at www.
We’ll be heading along to a couple of events including the Scotch Malt Whisky Society tasting at Hotel du Vin which promises to be a great evening of whisky including some long forgotten releases! We hope to see you there!
