Birmingham Whisky Festival – LivingRoom Whisky Stand

Birmingham Whisky Festival – LivingRoom Whisky Stand

The Birmingham Whisky Festival is but a week away so we thought we’d share the frankly awesome whisky that we’ll be exibiting on our ‘Blogger’s Choice’ Stand at the show. We’ve selected some fabulous spirits from a range of distilleries and companies and we are excited about bringing them to you on 2 March. It is an opportunity not to be missed – some of the whiskies are sold out, never to be repeated! Just take a look at what you can try.

Chichibu–The Floor Malted [50.5%]
One of the highlights of The Whisky Exchange Whisky Show 2012 was the Japanese Masterclass I (Jon) attended, and Chichibu The First was one of the stars of that session – it was mind-blowingly good. This version is still only 3 years old and is a fantastic handcrafted Single Malt from Japan’s newest distillery. We’ll tell you more about it on the day!

Compass Box
We are huge fans of Compass Box and have chosen two of their finest blends for The Birmingham Whisky Festival. First up is Great King Street [43%]; this blend featured in our Top Ten Drams for Christmas and is a lovely rich malty blend. We’re also showcasing Hedonism [43%]; this is a blended grain whisky that we simply adore – we’ve used it in tastings before and it has always blown people away!

Karuizawa – The Spirit of Asama [48%]
This is a bottle of whisky I was so impressed with when I tried it that I went out and bought a bottle. It is from Karuizawa (a closed distillery in Japan) and is a vatting of 77 casks of 9-11 year old whisky. It has incredible flavor as a result of its maturation high in the Japanese Alps. This will be one of the highlights of your day!

Port Askaig 12 Year Old [45.8%]
We love Islay and we love Islay whisky. We wanted to give you the chance to try something a little different, but something that still encapsulated what this great island is all about – this is a lovely 12 year old whisky from Specialty Drinks that is fresh and smokey. The only thing we won’t tell you is which distillery it is from!

That Boutique-y Whisky Company
That Boutique-y Company has released some cracking whiskies this year and we have three amazing whiskies to share from them (the first two are now sold out so this really is your last chance to try them!). Firstly we have an Aultmore Batch 1 [53.4%] that we featured in our Top Ten Drams for Christmas, secondly a lovely peaty sherried Islay from Bowmore Batch 1 [48.7%] and finally something pretty special – an Invergordon Batch 1 [41.6%] single grain whisky containing some incredibly old spirit – you will love this!

Tomatin 15 Year Old [43%]
One of our favourite whiskies of last year! We enjoyed a vertical tasting of the whole Tomatin range and this whisky really stood out for us. It is from the Highlands and is full of vanilla, spices and fruits.

Wemyss Malts
Wemyss have released some great whisky over the past couple of years and we have two of their blends to show off! Spice King [40%] is full of pepper, spice and fruits, while Peat Chimney [40%] is Islay in a glass – smokey, BBQ’s, ash and sea spray!
