It’s exciting times to drink whisky in Birmingham, or to be in Birmingham and like whisky! Not only do you lucky people have this blog (run by two Birmingham based whisky fans), you also have the Birmingham Whisky Club headed up by Amy Seton. The club meets monthly on a Thursday evening in the Old Joint Stock in the centre of Birmingham and so far has been through a fabulous range of tastings. And now for the really exciting part – the first Birmingham Whisky Festival!
Saturday Decmber 1 will see Birmingham host its first mini whisky festival in the Old Joint Stock. Running from 12:00-17:00, there will be over 50 whiskies to sample including delights from Macallan, Laphroaig, Suntory, Bowmore, Balblair, Old Pulteney and a great range from The Whisky Shop. There will also be the rare opportunity to sample wares from the John Distillery in Ireland. We’ve already got our eyes on the Old Pulteney 21, Yamazaki 18 and the John Paul Single Cask 161. The fun doesn’t stop there – there are also two masterclasses to join: Cheese and Whisky Matching (featuring Craig from The Whisky Shop and David from Capeling and Co matching some gorgeous cheese and whiskies) and Whisky for the Festive Season (featuring the whisky to buy and give as Christmas approaches – a great class to learn about whisky basics too!). Further information can be found here.
The mini whisky festival has a range of ticket options to suit everyone’s budget: you can attend the day for a mere £25, one of the classes from £20 or buy in bulk and make savings. Check out the prices here. There will also be the opportunity to celebrate the first birthday of the Birmingham Whisky Club with a cake cutting and the chance to win some whisky and distillery visit vouchers! Plus, we’ll be there on the day – so please come and say hi!
That isn’t the end of it though – next April will see the biggest whisky event Birmingham has seen – we’d advise you to keep Saturday April 13 free and come to The Bond in Birmingham for Whisky Birmingham. You wouldn’t want to miss out on over 100 whiskies, creative masterclasses, bloggers choice stand (we’re working hard on making this the most exciting stand!), themed food, and an after hours lounge hosted by The Victoria with selected brands! Check out Whisky Birmingham for more information.
As you can see Birmingham is fast becoming the place to be to drink whisky! The Birmingham Whisky Club and us would love to see you at both of the events so please do come along as we’ll be blogging, tweeting and drinking at them!
If you’d like more information about any of the above then please feel free to email Amy at amy@thebirminghamwhiskyclub.
