A very good evening & a warm welcome to all of our Tweet Tasters & to all those following tonight’s @WemyssMalts dramstravaganza #WEMYSSTT
-
The first whisky up is a blended malt that is 12 years old. Called The Hive, it is a fabulous introduction to the range; fruity, honeyed and the merest hint of smoke. Well worth picking up a bottle.
-
Light, sweet, a bit of smoke in there, pear drops, definately honey, a bit of spice (cinnamon?), earthy vegetable notes #WemyssTT
-
@galg Also getting a little dark choc with a subtle wisp of chilli pepper. #WEMYSSTT
-
A bit more vegetal & herbaceous on the palate than on the nose. Quite oily. With a touch of water, a bit of smoke is coming through #WEMYSSTT
-
#WEMYSSTT finishes with a balance of sweetness, light saltiness and the tartness of the citrus element at the back of the tongue. Lovely!
-
We moved onto a recently released premium blend – The Lord Elcho. Again bottled at 40% but this time aged 15 years. We have previously reviewed this whisky and rather enjoyed it!

#WemyssTT dram 2: Lord Elcho 15yo, a blend. Nose is soft, with a bit of everything – malt, dried fruit, fudge, a wee echo of smoky salt
-
Elcho is like stollen cake – marzipan and dried fruits – yum! Bit of caramel cake too. #WEMYSSTT
-
taking a sip from this lovely Elcho nectar ; sherry galore, creamy, fudgy, chocolaty, coaoa, wood, fortified wine. #WEMYSSTT
-
It’s very smooth; reminds me of a well made New York Cheesecake (slightly seasoned!) #WemyssTT
-
Rich, decadent and delicious on the palate. Very much a sumptuous umphed up version of the nose. #WEMYSSTT

The third whisky of the night is the newly released single cask bottling of White Chocolate Torte. Aged 24 years and hailing from 1988 this Tormore is bottled at the slightly higher percentage of 46%. It is also limited to 251 bottles so a real rarity to try as part of this tasting. It was a real favourite with a lot of people on the night!
-
So this 3rd whisky was distilled in 1998, and bottled in 2012 at 46%, which is a much better ABV. 🙂 Golden straw in colour. #WemyssTT
-
White Chocolate Torte – bashed up hazelnuts and almonds with a bit of citrus and wood! #WEMYSSTT
-
Lovely and light on the nose, very fresh, before the vanilla and cocoa come steaming in! #WemyssTT
-
@dvdbloke Yes. @whiskydufftown has it at £83.95 This one flew out of our warehouse in a matter of weeks. #WEMYSSTT
-
Summers ice cream by the beach (with a white 99) – what a palate #WemyssTT
-
#WEMYSSTT 1988 P: Sweet and creamy mouth feel building to a spicy crescendo before fading back to sweet vanilla and white chocolate, quality
-
the mouth is lovely: apricot compote, some exotic fruit , mixed with thick cream, with white chock bits in it #WEMYSSTT

The final whisky is the one that I have personally been looking for. I’ve been to Islay and I’ve had barbecues on the beach while drinking Laphroaig. This one brings back memories – its a 14 year old Laphroaig called Beach Bonfires, again bottled at 46% and limited to 357 bottles. I can’t wait to taste:
-
Beach Bonfires This is my whisky. Memories of the beach at Port Ellen, of sunshine on Islay and of fine beachside whisky. #Magical #WemyssTT
-
The Beach Bonfires is pale. It’s a 1998 Laphroaig.Reminds me of being down at the harbour waiting for my uncles’ boats to come in. #WEMYSSTT
-
I’m getting that bacon fat roasting on a beach thing going on! crispy #wemysstt
-
nose: seaweed. smoke, earthy peat, soot. really coastal. really smoky. a laphraoig. yes sir. #WEMYSSTT
-
Agree. This beach bonfire has coal in it! Anyone else get sweet BBQ sauce? #WEMYSSTT
-
@WemyssMalts Sweet charred BBQ ribs on a beach BBQ #WEMYSSTT
-
#WEMYSSTT now getting coal dust and much saltyness, and something sweeter in the background.
-
Let’s all go to Islay now! Build a bonfire and sit around, have a dram and talk about whisky! #WEMYSSTT
